There are three Athenas in a very small area. The one most popular on Fridays and Saturdays with gays is on Rua Augusta near the corner of Antonio Carlos. The sidewalk tables are the best for taking in the sights and sounds of Baixo Augusta (without actually being in the wilder section further down the street.)
Athenas is a place where men go to eat, and a place where plates that emerge from the kitchen full, always go back empty. The menu is full of traditional Greek-diner specialties, and Brazilian bar food. Cocktails at Athenas are great, but to drink like brasileiro, order a cerveja which comes in a nicely-chilled bottle big enough to share with friends.
After dinner, crossover to Urbe Cafe Bar for coffee … or more drinks!
