Nightlife explodes on the weekends in Santiago, so make sure you are well rested. Luckily, bar crawling is quite easy if you stay in the “gayborhood” of Bellavista. (Check out our guide for gay-friendly hotels and places to stay in Santiago for the best options.) Many of the bars and clubs are on Bombero Núñez, a street which shines with colorful graffiti by day, and colorful Chilenos by night.
The gay scene in Santiago can be on the young side. There are several universities in the area. The more mature crowd can be found a bit further outside of the bar crawl at Fausto, an historic gay bar with a rich past. Many guys over 40 avoid the gay scene altogether, preferring to socialize in everyday bars and restaurants … and to look for adventure at any of Santiago’s gay saunas.
Alcohol in Santiago nightlife is cheap and plentiful (according to a World Health Organization survey, Chileans drink more than country in Latin America.) Fortunately, Chileans are also quite friendly and visitors can enjoy a night on the town in Santiago without incident. Order a terremoto from one of the fun bartenders like Nicolás from Bunker (photo above) and have join in the fun!
