Doors open at 11pm and it’s one of the few places in the downtown gay bar circuit to enjoy a quiet drink outside of the jam-packed bars nearby on Avenida Viera de Carvalho.
The action starts at 1AM and features a mix of travestis performers and buff male strippers. The layout of Bar Queen lets the performers take the show from the main stage to the upper balcony to the small cabaret-style main floor.
Newcomers are welcomed by drag hostesses like Maryana Mercury with a diva-free attitude. If you’re lucky enough to visit on the birthday of someone connected to the club, there might be hot dogs and birthday cake. That’s the sort of no-frills fun you can expect at Bar Queen.
The strip shows can be amazing, and far more interactive than those at other clubs. On Saturdays, you may have to wait until after 3AM for the muscular go go boys to show more skin, but they do not disappoint. Wednesday nights offer a small army of strippers who go all the way.
